Christian is a senior lecturer at the Indiana University School of Social Work and co-owner of VibeWell Connect, a telehealth company. He teaches and researchers in the areas of telebehavioral health practice, distance education, and the use of Al in social work practice and education. He utilizes e-simulations designed to enhance student clinical practice skills in a virtual setting. He is interested in enhancing e-social work distance education through program development and technology design, as well as utilizing technology-based interventions within clinical social work.
Course Description:
This training is designed to help social workers, counselors, and psychologists build a practical, ethically grounded understanding of artificial intelligence in clinical and helping settings. The course introduces key AI concepts and commonly used tools, while examining how these technologies are increasingly shaping professional tasks such as writing, assessment support, and clinical documentation.
Participants will explore both the promise and the limitations of AI, including potential benefits, challenges, risks, and ethical concerns. The training emphasizes the importance of applying professional ethical frameworks, sound clinical judgment, and best practices when considering AI use in practice. It also addresses the growing issue of AI-related distress and the ways emerging technologies may affect client well-being, therapeutic relationships, and professional decision-making.
Throughout the training, attendees will be encouraged to move beyond fear or overreliance and toward thoughtful, responsible integration of AI. The central focus remains on protecting clients, maintaining professional integrity, and ensuring that human judgment stays at the core of ethical and effective practice.
